  • This online course concentrates on the basics of installing code compliant solar hot water systems. This course will be useful for people who currently work in or plan to be employed in the solar hot water industry. Student technicians will cover the following lessons:

    The essential training objective of this course is to provide the solar hot water installer/technician/contractor with fundamental technical knowledge on solar assisted heating in order that the technician may acquire and advance in design, installation and servicing responsibilities as the market for solar assisted water heating progresses.
      The course is ISPQ accredited by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council and is also North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners approved for continuing education contact hours and counts for 40 hours which can be used to meet certain requirements for NABCEP installer certification and re-certification.

      • Lesson 8: PV Inverter System Design
      • Lesson 9: Photovoltaic System Sizing
      • Lesson 10: Installation of Photovoltaic Systems
      • Lesson 11: Photovoltaic System Electrical Integration
      • Lesson 12: Utility-Interactive Systems
      • Lesson 13: Permitting and Inspection
      • Lesson 14: PV System Maintenance and Performance Analysis
      • Lesson 15: Economic Analysis

    • Sun Pirate’s Entry Level PV Program consists of our IREC accredited, self-paced Photovoltaic System Design and Installation Online Course (60 contact hours), and our Electrical and Safety Basics for Solar Installers Online Course.

      Students will receive instruction in solar electrical theory, working safely with PV, basic load analysis, system sizing, components, and installation and design practices.

      These courses are aligned with the 10 NABCEP Entry Level Learning Objectives. Upon completion of these courses, student can sit and take the NABCEP Entry Level PV Exam at a Computer Based Center authorized by NABCEP.

    • The Electric and Safety Basics for Solar course teaches the solar enthusiast the fundamental skills required to work in this growing industry. This course covers in depth the basic math concepts that are used regularly along with more complicated math concepts. Then you dig into electrical basics and learn the basics of DC and AC and items related to solar. Next is the big safety topic covering all the safety topics needed to work in the solar industry from electrical safety to ladder and fall protection. This course is your foundation for all future training in this great industry.

Student technicians are encouraged to obtain additional hands-on training and supervised on the job experience.
